Custom Tomica: Cyberpunk Toyota GR Supra A90

C Y B E R P U N K A90

It has been more than a year since I have completed a new custom diecast car. I have plenty of other unfinished customs but I focused all of my energy on this build.

Behind the Build

This was originally supposed to be my entry for the Diecast Heroes Magazine Cyberpunk Feature, unfortunately I didn't make in on time for submission due to my inconsistent work schedule. I decided to push through because I had planned this custom for weeks or maybe even months as I have always dreamed of making more Cyberpunk cars; and it was a personal goal of mine to get this Supra to where I wanted it to be. It always starts of with doodles:

Before cutting the casting

I always have so many ideas flowing so I always sketch/doodle out my ideas on the first paper I can find. I have sketchbooks, that I just recently started utilizing for both car designs and production notes; but this is how this one started off.

I then begin to mark off where I am cutting. I wanted this to have a full video build feature however I feel like I missed some important footage due to the time constraint so just went straight into cutting same night.

After marking the front and the back the cutting with a jeweler's saw begins...

Looking pretty cyberpunky already. Fast forward to applying a lot of epoxy putty:

This is where I began posting teasers on Instagram and just before I added the huge swan neck GT wing:

One thing I learned with this project is how to lower Tomica castings. It took a lot of work and trial and error but I was finally able to figure it out. I believe it took me three nights to get it to where I want it to be.

Stock Ride Height

So Tomica always advertises that their cars have working suspension and the way they do that is using a thin metal sheet to press down against the front an wheel axle. The above picture show it at stock height, and the following picture is on night three where I finally lowered it just enough to not rub on the fenders. If I had gone any lower, the rear would definitely rub especially after a few coats of paint and clear coat.

Lowered

Just paint and detail and she's ready to be posted.

Here are some pictures that are not on Instagram:

Hope you enjoyed this build. As I am typing this out I am still debating as to whether I should do a full build feature or just a three-sixty degree video with some good cyberpunk inspired music and call out the highlights of all the details... You'll see in a few days what I decide.

Please don't forget to see my other custom cars in the "Photos" section and on Instagram @pd9customs. Also, please visit my YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6S5-1h2Nt4QIblBnmh8mRw. I am trying to improve the content so your feedback here and there is much appreciated.

Until the next one.
